Choosing Your Seer and The Ethics of Divination

Choosing Your Seer and The Ethics of Divination:

Professionals have regulatory bodies and codes of conduct, whereas mystical practitioners are frequently self-taught. This can leave them feeling somewhat uncertain about how to appropriately interact with the general public. From the client's perspective, it is difficult to know who to select for a reading.

Whatever their field, all practitioners of the divinatory arts should be guided by ethical principles. Conversations with a group of astrologers confirmed for me that all readers whose clients seek advice face the same challenges: dealing with difficult questions, the possibility of tragic events, what to do when people have depression or issues they cannot handle on their own, and avoiding dependency and the stress it places on the practitioner. I will discuss how readers and their clients can avoid these problems in this section.

Initially, I would recommend establishing motives. I believe that the best position for a practitioner is to have a set of strong values regarding their work that align with their spiritual perspective. As someone who strives to live in accordance with Buddhist teachings, I ask myself, What is my motivation for doing this type of work? The first response that comes to mind is to help others by sharing the insights gained from a reading, but there is more to it than that. By providing them with information, the goal is to enable others to decide for themselves how to deal with problems in their lives more effectively. It is unethical to encourage clients to become dependent on an increasing number of readings.

When people have a simplistic view of divination, client reliance is commonly the result. They believe that a reading reveals a future that is written in stone tablets and cannot be altered. They perceive themselves as puppets on a stage where larger forces control the action. If they receive the incorrect response to their questions, clients can exert pressure on readers to tell them what they want to hear by repeatedly asking the same question until they receive the correct response. It is easy to forget how much a client cares about what a reader says and how cautious they must be when interacting with someone who is overwhelmed by life issues.

The Tarot cards reveal a person's potentials, tendencies, and opportunities at any given time. Never does this individual lose their free will. Readers must demonstrate to clients that they have options and must take initiative in their lives. If you take this route, X may occur. If you follow this path, Y is more likely to occur. Does anyone obtain a new job or a new relationship if they do not take action towards their goals? A quality text should demonstrate how to make desirable changes.

If you are a client looking for a reader who can provide you with genuine insight into your possibilities, you should look for someone who can explain things in this manner. Never feel as though you have lost control of your decisions. The objective of divination is guidance, not intimidation. Both seers and clients must adopt an exploratory rather than a predictive mindset during a reading, and clients should inquire, "How do you work?" when booking a session. Is there only one solution to a problem, or am I free to explore all available options?
